A 23-year-old Barnesville man who is already facing charges involving an overdose death has been arrested and charged with multiple additional drug charges.
While patrolling an area along South Poplar Street where businesses have become recent robbery targets, officers said they spotted and pulled over a suspicious silver Pontiac Sunfire. According to police, the Barnesville man was a passenger, and the driver had a large amount of cash in his lap. Officers said they noticed a scale in the backseat, which prompted them to remove both the driver and passenger from the vehicle and conduct a search.
Police said they found drugs and paraphernalia, in the pockets of both men and in a book bag. Police said they found marijuana, methamphetabmine, heroin and other drugs, along with syringes, scales, ledgers and baggies. Both men were taken into custody.
The passenger, who was already awaiting trial on charges related to the overdose death of a 26-year-old woman in 2016, was charged with three felony possession counts with intent to distribute, and two misdemeanors, one involving the paraphernalia and the other possession of a controlled substance.
In any situation involving drug charges, contacting an experienced attorney should be the first thing a person does in order to preserve and protect his or her own defense. An individual facing drug charges should never speak with law enforcement without an attorney present for guidance.
Everyone who is accused of a crime has the right to a defense. A skilled criminal defense attorney can help people accused of drug crimes to build a defense that will limit the long-term damage these charges can do to one's freedom and future.
