A late night accident turned deadly when a man drove his car off the road, through a yard and into the home of an 86-year-old woman. Investigators believe that the driver of a car, a 21-year-old Pennsylvania man, had been drinking and possibly using drugs when he got behind the wheel of his car. They also believe that the man was traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour when his car crashed into the victim’s home and entered the bedroom where she was sleeping.
The victim was declared dead at the scene of the accident and the man was arrested for his involvement in the deadly incident. There is no report of whether anyone else was home at the time of the crash.
What is known, though, is that the victim was a grandmother and a leader in her family. Those who loved her will now have to find a way to move their lives forward without her and will struggle to understand why their beloved family member had to die in such a senseless tragedy. They may choose to learn more about their legal options against the driver, one of which may be to file a wrongful death claim.
A wrongful death occurs when a person loses their life due to the negligent or intentional actions of another person. In this case the driver acted in a criminal and reckless way. The family of the victim may be able to make a strong case against him in civil court. Through their lawsuit they may be able to secure damages for their losses, pain and suffering that may help them continue to live despite their incredible personal loss.
